Ancestry Library Edition
Now available from home! In normal circumstances, Ancestry can only be accessed using the library wifi or library computers.
With Ancestry Library Edition, you can search records that include the US Federal Census (1790 to 1940), the Social Security Death Index, draft registration records, passenger lists, directories, narratives, probate, land title records, and some Canadian and UK census records.
To access Ancestry from home: go to My Account, log in with your New Providence library card barcode number and PIN (last 4 digits of your card number). Then click on Ancestry.com. Here is where the Ancestry link will be found on that page:
FamilySearch
FamilySearch lets you search some genealogical records, family trees, and create your own family tree online.
New Providence Memorial Library is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. At NPML, you can view over 400 million digital original records in FamilySearch, including name indexes and images, that cannot be viewed from home. You may use the library computers or your own laptop connected to the library wifi to access them on FamilySearch.
HeritageQuest
HeritageQuest allows you to search Census records, books (family and local histories), wills & probate records, city directories, military records, immigration records, the Social Security Death Index, cemeteries and more.
You may search HeritageQuest from home.
