The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
Nicola Yoon, the author of the well-known novel, The Sun Is Also a Star, provides a new and diverse view on the controversial topic of immigration. The story is centered around Natasha Kingsley, an illegal immigrant and Daniel Bae who is an aspiring poet. Both Natasha and Daniel must work together to overcome challenges and obstacles which will allow them to rise to their full potential.
Nicola Yoon utilizes scientific principles throughout the text to highlight a common belief that many individuals in society have. Furthermore, Yoon uses imagery and setting to evoke emotion which allows the reader to form a stronger connection with the characters.
Overall, the novel had an omniscient point of view which allowed the readers to develop a sense of closure with the characters. During some parts of the novel, the plot felt “dragged out” and excessively long. However, the resolution at the end of the novel was unexpected and the entire novel was a beautiful and well-crafted piece of literature.
