NPML Open House Saturday, June 2

The Friends of the Library, Board and staff invite you to join us for the Library’s
Open House celebration on Saturday, June 2 from 1PM to 4PM.

We’re planning a fun afternoon with programming to suit a variety of tastes along with light refreshments.  Come for the programs and stay for cookies and a tour of the library!

At
2PM, we’ll enjoy the usual informative and fun introduction to unusual mammals from Wallaby Tales.  This year, they’ll be introducing nocturnal animals, possibly including a prehensile tailed porcupine, Australian sugar glider and kinkajou.  We can’t wait to see what these look like!  This is a program for animal lovers of any age.

At
3:30PM, we are pleased to offer a book talk given by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Ingrassia, a local author, introducing his new book called Engines of Change: A History of the American Dream in Fifteen Cars.  It’s an entertaining romp through US automotive history that aims to show the surprisingly broad influence of these 15 autos on American society from the beginning of the 20th century to today.

Tuesday Movies @ 9:30 & 2

We need to get on the stick since May is nearly half gone!  Well, luckily, the movie schedule has been going at full speed although this week we're taking a break.  There is NO MOVIE DURING THE DAY on 5/8.  The foreign movie will be shown as usual.  Our day films wll resume on 5/15 with the blowout Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.  You know who stars in that, right?  Next up on 5/22 is Fireflies in the Garden.  It's a story that starts out in one way with the picture of an ideal and successful family but then turns into something deeper when an accident interrups their lives.

And don't forget that these movies are being shown twice on Tuesdays now at 9:30AM and 2PM

Our first foreign film of the month on 5/8 at 6:30PM is The Motorcycle Diaries, based on the journal of Che Guevara the film follows the trip of Guevara and his best friend's journey across South America in the 1950's.  The trip has a profound effect on the pair and inspires Guevara to become the leader of the Cuban revolution.  The movie is in Spanish, Quechua and Mapudungun with English subtitles.

Starting in April,  we are adding another foreign movie on the schedule on every first Tuesday at 2PM
